TRS Type-A vs Type-B vs DIN-5 — Why the Adapter Matters
Modern compact synths and grooveboxes (Korg minilogue series, Novation Circuit, Arturia MicroFreak, Polyend Tracker, etc.) ship MIDI on a 3.5 mm TRS jack to save panel space. Some manufacturers wired the jack as TRS Type-A, others as Type-B — and almost none of them speak natively to vintage DIN-5 MIDI hardware. The SUPERCAN DIN MIDI Controller is the bridging adapter: a 3.5 mm TRS Type-A input running through an opto-isolated MIDI 1.0 output on standard female DIN-5. The included shielded cable carries clean MIDI clock with sub-1 ms jitter, so a hardware sequencer in tempo lock with a modern compact synth stays in lock with a 30-year-old DX7.
USB-C Power, Signal Routing & Status LEDs
Power comes from any USB-C source: a phone charger, a laptop port, a USB-PD power bank, even a wall adapter from another device. No proprietary supply, no batteries, no scope for tour-rider arguments. On the input side the controller also accepts RS-485 and DMX-512 data streams — useful for lighting designers who want to translate DMX cues into MIDI program-change messages on stage. Two front-panel LEDs make troubleshooting trivial: a red LED confirms 5 V power, a green LED blinks on every MIDI byte received so the operator can see signal traffic without a laptop.
